Wal-Mart Invasion

As rustic and natural as Northern NY can be, there apparently seems to be room for Wal-Mart amidst the pine trees. Employment is a major issue way up here. Yes this is NY, but no we are not living off city wages and minimum wage+ Wal-Mart is awfully enticing to many around here. What's a back woods town to do?

I sure have mixed feeling about Wally world coming to the Adirondacks. It is a real dilemma. We've got one in Plattsburgh, seems appropriate, but Lake Placid/Saranac Lake, that sure seems wrong somehow. We sure have some interesting issues up here in the North Country.

I know, when is enough enough? The only thing stopping WalMart is a trade embargo with China. I do have to admit though that stuff is damn cheap. There is no competition. And when does anyone have enough money these days to pay for a more expensive item just to keep money local? Oy Vey.

Americans are just lazy and are losing their identity as a country. Now we are defined as materialistic pigs mainly because of the huge amount of comercialization that is going on.

A man dies. When he gets to heaven, he walks in the pearly gates and into a huge Wal-mart. The man says to the store clerk, "This isn't what I imagined heaven to be like at all." The store clerk replies, "Who said you're in heaven?"
